Christmas 2023

Merry Christmas for tomorrow. I hope you enjoy every minute of your day, no matter how you celebrate it (or not) and that the last few days of 2023 will pass equally agreeably.

My own year was capped off by a visit to London in September/October that was life-changing in unforeseen, seemingly endless ways. Fuelled by my trip, I’m now working with renewed vigour and a more assured sense of direction towards a solo show at Stephen McLaughlan Gallery, scheduled for the latter part of next year. I can’t wait to see where the work takes me and what ever else the new year will bring.

My thanks and gratitude to those who have offered their friendship, support and encouragement throughout the past momentous year. I’m very lucky to have you in my life, and it’s a privilege to be a part of yours.

Seasonal Salutations

A special memory is attached to every decoration on our Christmas tree, and every year we collect new ones. There is always room for more!

Thinking of friends and family near and far this Christmastide. May it bring all you could wish for, and more.

Christmas in Ballarat

Christmas Greetings from Ballarat. 🎄

Pictured above are eleven recently completed miniature silhouette paintings. Ostensibly made for last Sunday’s BMI Christmas Maker Market, they also provided an invaluable opportunity to road test some new ideas ahead of the coming year.

Directly below: Under the eye of Alice, Shane decorates our new Christmas tree - - -

- - - followed by some detailed views.

No sooner had we trimmed the tree, when we discovered our first surprise waiting underneath it.

Meanwhile, our original tree, diminutive but best-loved, graces the downstairs entrance hall - - -

- - - watched over from the adjacent living room by Alice (who somehow managed to be in two places at once). The splendid cat cushion on her favourite chair was a recent birthday gift (to me, not Alice) from our dear friend, Paul Compton.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Compliments of the Season

After seven months of serial house moving, Shane and I are looking forward to staying in our new house today and doing as little as possible, at least for most of the day.

This evening, we'll follow our long tradition of visiting a dear friend in Melbourne and enjoying a classic film at the Alhambra, his home cinema, along with a small group of likeminded friends. This year, it's the delightful My Man Godfrey (1936) with Carole Lombard and William Powell.

Meanwhile, our own home cinema is taking shape, although it still lacks a projector. At present, our Christmas tree graces the stage.

In the following photo, a seemingly benign Alice has positioned herself under the tree ...

... but soon blots her copybook by trying to eat one of the decorations, a miniature cuckoo clock from Germany.

However you celebrate today, or if you simply choose to ignore it, have a safe and happy day.

Compliments of the Season

On the night before Christmas, all is calm, all is bright. Not a creature is stirring, not even in my studio.

Entering into the Yuletide spirit, Alice has decided not to fell the Christmas tree after all.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and nothing but the best for the coming year.

'Tis the Season

Pictured below: our Christmas tree at Ballarat, December 2017. For Shane and I, each and every decoration holds a special memory, of places we've visited, of family members, of distant friends. Merry Christmas, everyone.

Dreaming of a Cool Yule

Unless I relocate to the northern hemisphere, it seems my fantasy of a white Christmas will always come to nought. But you can't stop me from dreaming, even on this most humid of Australian Christmas Eves.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to friends old and new, near and far. I do hope you'll drop by again in 2017.
