FOTP 2020

Featured here are selected highlights from yesterday's 2020 Sticky Institute Festival of the Photocopier Zine Fair. For the first time - and hopefully not the last - the event was held at the historic Meat Market in North Melbourne.

The Meat Market and surrounding area area hold many memories for me. In the 1980s, I worked for a couple of years as an administrative assistant at the Print Council of Australia. During that time, the Print Council established a gallery and office in North Melbourne after their original base in Collins Street was demolished. Subsequently, the PCA moved into an office at the Meat Market, where they remained for some years before relocating to their current office in Fitzroy.

Shane and I drove to the Meat Market from Ballarat. We were a little early and had an opportunity to see inside this magnificent building shortly before the hoards of stall holders and zine fans arrived.

In recent years, all exhibitors, apart from zine distros, have been allotted a half table, owing to the sheer number of zinesters requiring stalls. This year there were over 450 stallholders over the two days that the zine fair was held. Andrew Pilkington, pictured below, shared a table with me. I couldn't have wished for a more convivial neighbour and thought his zines were terrific. In fact, his first sale of the day was to me - and vice versa.

I was doubly blessed with zine stall neighbours because on the table to our right were our good friends Gracia Haby and Louise Jennison (centre and right). To their left are Gracia's parents, Elaine and Peter Haby.

There was a sensational turnout and the entire affair ran like clockwork. As always, we could only marvel at Sticky Institute's peerless organisational skills.

After spotting the splendid George Costanza tee shirt sported by a zine fan (below, centre) Andrew and I discovered we share a mutual enthusiasm for the legendary TV sitcom, Seinfeld.

Thank you, Sticky and the Meat Market for having us, and warmest thanks to all who stopped by the Moth Woman Press stall and helped me raise funds for Wildlife Victoria's Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

At the day's end, it was announced that Sticky hope to hold the 2021 Festival of the Photocopier in the same venue. My fingers are firmly crossed.

Life at the Top of the Art World

Yesterday afternoon's Sticky Institute Festival of the Photocopier 2018 was bigger, brighter and better than ever, but, like many eagerly anticipated events, it was all over far too quickly. This year Sticky Institute received an unprecedented number of applications from zinesters (around 250 in the end, I believe) so all but zine distros were required to share a table. When your zine neighbours are Gracia Haby and Louise Jennison, with Theo Strasser on the adjoining table, this can only be a good thing.  We had a fabulous day. For me it was the best zine fair ever, which is saying something. I for one can't wait to do it all again next year.

FESTIVAL OF THE PHOTOCOPIER ZINE FAIR 2018

The renowned Sticky Institute Festival of the Photocopier is currently under way and, as always, will culminate in a ginormous zine fair. In recent years it’s been held at Melbourne Town Hall, a venue well suited to accommodate the ever-growing number of stall holders. This year it’s anticipated that they'll number over two hundred.

Moth Woman Press will be among them, with three new zines made especially for the event, namely Fallen Women, The leaves, like women, interchange and Alice’s Wonderland (see below). We’ll also be carrying a a goodly selection of zines from our back catalogue.

FOTP 2017

Pictured below are a handful of highlight's from yesterday afternoon's spectacular 2017 Festival of the Photocopier Zine Fair at magnificent Melbourne Town Hall. Despite a number of conflicting events in our fair city, the turn-out was fantastic, with visitor numbers well into the thousands. With Sticky Institute at the helm, support from the City of Melbourne, assistance above and beyond the call of duty from my partner, Shane Jones, and warm companionship from our stall neighbours, Gracia Haby and Louise Jennison, what could possibly go wrong? Well, thanks in no small part to Sticky Institute and the dedication and professionalism of our fellow stall holders, absolutely nothing did.

The 2017 Festival of the Photocopier

In recent weeks, most of our creative hours have been spent at Moth Woman Press, in feverish preparation for the 2017 Festival of the Photocopier Zine Fair at Melbourne Town Hall on Sunday week, February 12.

To the right of the poster above are three mini-zines I've made especially for the fair. They are (from top): Pressed for Time, Leaves of Absence and The artist's hand. Accompanying them will be an extensive array of Moth Woman Press zines and mini-zines.
