Acquisition by Whitehorse Art Collection

As the year winds down, I’m delighted to share the news that my painting Masked Australian Painted Lady ll has been acquired for the Whitehorse Art Collection.

The collection was initiated in 1927 by the former City of Box Hill with artworks by Frederick McCubbin, Tom Roberts and Arthur Streeton, all members of the renowned Box Hill Artists’ Camp

Currently the notable collection of the City of Whitehorse comprises almost 1,700 historic and contemporary artworks. It’s an honour to have my painting counted among them.

Masked Australian Painted Lady ll is part of WAYS OF BEING, my solo exhibition at Stephen McLaughlan Gallery, running to December 24.

Eleven Ways of Being

WAYS OF BEING #1: Tudor Rose ll

In the days leading up to WAYS OF BEING, my current exhibition, I did an impromptu photo shoot with my partner in crime, Shane Jones. A spontaneous exercise that started - and continued - in fun, it provided a welcome distraction from pre-exhibition jitters.

Studio/dressing room

Until then, I hadn’t recognised the close to human scale of most of the works. In Shane’s first shots, the painting almost appeared to be an extension of my body, incidentally providing another take on the exhibition’s overarching theme. Over the next day or two, in between exhibition prep, I selected a few more paintings and shopped my wardrobe to complete the picture.

WAYS OF BEING #2: Orange Tree ll

WAYS OF BEING #3: Tender Grapes ll

WAYS OF BEING #4: Spring and Summer

WAYS OF BEING #5: Eye Candy

WAYS OF BEING #6: Spring growth

WAYS OF BEING #7: Lady Justice ll

WAYS OF BEING #8: Birds of a Feather

WAYS OF BEING #9: Climber ll

WAYS OF BEING #10: Horned Poppy ll

WAYS OF BEING #11: Cat Woman ll

I thoroughly enjoyed my photographic collaboration with Shane and hope you’ll equally enjoy the results.

WAYS OF BEING - Mid-exhibition drinks

Shane Jones and I

Featured here are a selection of happy snaps from last Saturday’s mid-exhibition gathering at Stephen McLaughlan Gallery. Huge thanks to everyone who dropped by and made it so much fun, including Gracia Haby and Louise Jennison, Elaine and Peter Haby, Bryan Putt, Megan Finlayson, Vanessa Taylor, Veronica Loew, Cresside Collette, Angela Cavalieri, Annette Burns (a former fellow student from my art school days) arts writer Inga Walton and family members Rosemarie and James Jones (all pictured below).

Among other visitors were Melbourne-based artists Jim Pavlidis and Graeme Drendel and Ballarat-based artist Debbie Hill and her husband Stephen (not pictured).

After the opening event on December 7, I realised that I didn’t have a photo of my partner Shane Jones and I together. Many thanks to Stephen McLaughlan for taking the one shown here (top image) and for hosting yesterday’s soirĂ©e.

My gratitude to everyone who has visited the exhibition so far, including those who have made multiple visits and those who have acquired works.

WAYS OF BEING continues to Christmas Eve. There’s no substitute for IRL, but for those who can’t make it, individual works can be viewed by clicking HERE.

Opening celebration of WAYS OF BEING

A million thanks to everyone who braved the intense humidity on Saturday afternoon, December 7, to attend the opening of my exhibition WAYS OF BEING at Stephen McLaughlan Gallery, Melbourne - with special shout outs to my wonderful partner Shane Jones and the indefatigable Stephen Mclaughlan.
